The speculation over Halo: Spartan Assault was put to rest today by Vanguard Games. They've revealed that Spartan is a top-down shooter in development for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.
Spartan Assault is set between Halo 3 and Halo 4. Players will take on the role of Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis, soldiers stationed aboard the UNSC Infinity. These soldiers will fight against Covenant forces in 25 missions. Leaderboards will track players' performance all the while.
Players' progress in Spartan Assault will help their Halo 4 multiplayer career. Spartan allows them to earn Achievements, emblems and XP for their Halo 4 avatar. Vanguard says that the two games will be integrated in other ways after Spartan's launch.
Spartan Assault will be available in July for $6.99. The game will be accompanied by a comic book series called Halo: Initiation. The three-part series, a collaboration between Dark Horse Comics and 343, will set up the story of Spartan Assault.
