Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced the free-to-play PC game Infinite Crisis. Infinite Crisis is a multiplayer online battle arena based on the DC Comics storyline of the same name.
In MOBA games, two teams of players take on the role of "hero" characters and work together to destroy the other team's base. The genre, popularized by the Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients, has become wildly popular in the free-to-play space. League of Legends, Dota 2 and Heroes of Newerth are just a few popular MOBA games.
In the case of Infinite Crisis, players step into the shoes of popular DC Comics heroes and villains. Batman, Green Lantern, the Joker, and Wonder Woman are among the characters featured in the trailer. The Crisis storyline deals with the various parallel DC worlds, so players will be able to control several different incarnations of these heroes and villains. You can be normal Batman or you can be his Steampunk equivalent.
Infinite Crisis is being developed by Turbine, the creators of The Lord of the Rings Online and Asheron's Call. This is their first MOBA game. However, this would be their third F2P game after LOTR Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online.
WB says that Infinite will launch later this year. You can sign up for the beta at the game's new website. Invitations will be sent out in waves via email.
