Following the announcement that 2K Boston was renaming itself Irrational Games, the rebranded company has begun a recruiting drive. The new job listings give some hint as to the nature of this new project.
The first listing is for a multiplayer level designer, which tells you something right off the bat. The ideal candidate for the position is familiar with "the current state of the art in game design across a wide range of genres on both PC and console." The position is classified as "Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Windows" at the bottom.
They're also looking for a programmer that's experienced with "Unreal Engine technology" and a variety of consoles, "especially the PS3." A third listing for a level builder is even more telling. It asks once again for Unreal Engine 3 experience, but adds that an "understanding of and desire to create first-person shooter gameplay" is required.
Pretty easy to add all of these up: they want to make a first-person multiplayer shooter powered by Unreal Engine 3. They already made one really good UE3 shooter - BioShock - so it makes sense they'd stick to their strengths. To get more specifics, we'll just have to wait until the next issue of Game Informer.
