Jet Car Stunts Careens Onto PS3 And Vita This Week
You remember back when you were a kid (or maybe just last week for some of you who are still young at heart) when you used to set up insane courses across living room furniture for your toy cars to race across? That's exactly the atmosphere Jet Car Stunts aims to capture on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. You can pick it up for those consoles later this week on the PlayStation Network and, just to give you an idea of what lies around that next corner, the developers have provided a handy launch trailer full of insane racing action.
Calling it a “launch” trailer is especially appropriate in this case, because it looks like your cars in Jet Car Stunts will spend about as much time in the air as they do on the ground. Grip Games' Jakub Mikyska dropped by the PlayStation Blog this weekend to fill in some additional details leading up to the game's official release on PlayStation platforms.
Mikyska doesn't waste any time beating around the bush, jumping straight to the fact that Jet Car Stunts will be available in this Tuesday's weekly update, Oct. 7, and it'll set you back $7.99 for the PS3 or Vita. It's also a cross-buy title, so purchasing it on one will give you an additional copy of the game on the other, at no additional cost. Apparently a PS4 version is heading down the track, too, and cross-buy will work in that direction, too.
Mikyaska goes on to describe Jet Car Stunts as a “high-speed, adrenaline-fueled hybrid between a racing game and a platformer.” Just take a gander at that launch trailer and you'll see exactly what he's talking about. You'll be racing across some pretty wild settings, full of tight turns, obstacles and loads of jumps. Your car is equipped with several gadgets that make handling those breakneck speeds more manageable, including a set of thrusters for launching your ride through the air.
Originally launching on mobile devices, this is the first time the Jet Car Stunts series has made it to the PlayStation family, and I imagine those physical buttons and analog sticks should make controlling the game easier than ever. Along with tackling the courses yourself, you'll also be able to race against the ghosts of your previous best times, and tackle all sorts of new courses and modes for those who are familiar with the series.
For those of you who find yourselves looking at the video footage and wondering, “hey, could he have gone this other direction instead?”, Mikyska says in the comments section that the answer is probably yes.
“...The game is intentionally made to be exploitable,” he said. “To let you find shortcuts and unexpected ways to cut your time.”

He also clarifies that Jet Car Stunts is the “full game,” so don't expect any silly skins/courses DLC popping up day one or anything like that, though brand new content could surface down the road.
For you Xbox One racing fans out there, initial reports that the game won't be arriving on your console of choice were later reversed, so fingers crossed you'll get in on the racing action, too.
