Konami Issues Free Games To Compensate For Silent Hill HD Collection Fiasco
If you purchased Silent Hill HD Collection for the Xbox 360, you're in for a treat: Konami will replace the game with another game of your choice from their vast library of games, for free. All you need is your original receipt and to contact Konami's customer support with the appropriate information.
The Examiner has details on what sort of games Konami has available for gamers and which systems the games are available for, which is awfully nice of them considering that it seems like that might be a more expensive alternative than, I don't know, fixing the game.
For those of you out of the loop, the reason Konami is offering up this olive branch to Xbox 360 gamers is because of all the vitriol created thanks to the pitchforks and torch internet mentality that caused them to think twice about not fixing their dang game. Konami did patch Silent Hill HD Collection for the PS3, but they said it was a no-can-do for the Xbox 360, instead the game will stay broke, stay on store shelves and won't be receiving any mending at all.
You might be asking why some companies don't just pay the deed and fix the game. Well, one of the reasons a lot of companies don't patch their games is due to certification and patching royalty fees, yes, those exist. According to DoubleFine's Tim Schafer, the average cost per patch can run a publisher about $40,000. For Konami that's chump change, but they're not biting.
It's at least good of the company to compensate those who ended up with a broken game that won't be getting fixed. It's also very telling when a much smaller company like Atlus wasted no time in helping Arc System Works get a patch out for Persona 4 Arena following its buggy launch this past Tuesday.
You can check out a list of the games that Konami will compensate for those of you who purchased Silent Hill HD Collection for the Xbox 360, as gathered by the good people at Cheap Ass Gamers. You'll need your receipt or a proof of purchase and you'll also need to contact their customer support to get things smoothed over by using the following e-mail address: customersupport@kde-us.com.
