Naughty Dog will not be able to finish their PS3 exclusive The Last of Us in time for the holidays. During an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, they confirmed that the game's release has slipped into next year.
Naughty Dog never committed to a 2012 release so this latest news isn't exactly a delay. That doesn't make it taste any better, though. I'd imagine that last week's reveal of the first gameplay footage at E3 will make the wait even harder. Like Naughty Dog's hit Uncharted series, Last blends third-person shooter action with stealth and character-driven drama.
Last of Us depicts a near-future in which a fungal plague has wiped out much of the Earth's population. A young orphan named Ellie and a black market dealer named Joel must team up and journey across the ruined United States. They'll have to fight off infected as well as other survivors.
The video from last night's Fallon is below. It contains the same gameplay footage as the E3 demo, apparently.
