Today Riot Games announced Lucian the Purifier, the next playable character for PC and Mac strategy game League of Legends. Lucian is a ranged DPS who looks like a cross between a paladin and a gunslinger.
"Stand against the shadows and obliterate evil with righteous power as Lucian, the Purifier," says Riot. "Armed with ancient weapons, this ranged carry excels at pummeling opponents with quick shots, relentless dashes and a barrage of light-infused bullets."
His main weapons of choices are two "relic weapons imbued with ancient power" that look like stone pistols. He can dish out ranged damage at a fast rate with these weapons. His passive ability, Lightslinger, gives him a bonus auto attack every time he uses one of his special attacks.
Lucian's other abilities revolve around fast movement and heavy damage. Piercing Light fires a bolt of light through a line of enemies. His exploding Ardent Blaze shot will damage enemies in its star-shaped blast radius and also mark them. By shooting marked enemies, Lucian will get a short burst of speed. Relentless Pursuit is his escape ability, allowing him to dash and remove all slowing effects.
The Culling is his ultimate ability. When cast, Lucian will begin firing a barrage of shots at a single enemy while also moving freely. This ability can be used in conjunction with Relentless Pursuit in order to chase down and finish off wounded foes. If Lucian kills an enemy with the Culling, his cooldown on Relentless Pursuit will reset.
Although most LoL players don't care about lore, Lucian nonetheless has a backstory. He and his wife Serra used to hunt the undead together, each using one of the relic weapons. However, Serra was ambushed by Thresh the Chain Warden and imprisoned in a spectral prison. Now Lucian hunts alone.
"Though the Warden had taken half of Lucian's heart, he had also created the Shadow Isles' most dangerous foe. Lucian became a man of dark determination, one who would stop at nothing to purge the undead from the face of Runeterra. In honor of Senna's memory, he took up her fallen weapon and vowed to see their mission through to the end. Now wielding both relic weapons, Lucian fights to slay the undead and cleanse the souls of the Shadow Isles. He knows that Senna’s soul is lost, but never loses hope that one day he will bring her peace."
