Leaked Information Shows Battlefield 5 Could Be Set In World War I

Some new info has leaked that indicates that the next Battlefield game could be set during World War I. The info points to a multiplayer shooter where gamers will likely have to deal with the horrors of trench warfare... or at least, that's what we can presume based on the info available.
PC Gamer spotted a listing on a Swiss retailer called World of Games. The listing managed to find its way around the internet where it describes Battlefield 5 coming for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. So how did anyone come away from the listing thinking that it's set during World War I? Well, the Swiss site had a description up stating “Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg”. In English that translates to “Multiplayer tactical shooter in WW1.”
The news went down with the gaming audience in a very weird way. Some people were excited that the game was not going to be some sci-fi, space-age shooter like the more recent Call of Duty games. Others weren't too happy because World War I is known for its trench warfare and a lot of people don't really want to stay stuck in the trenches.
However, there were some unique weapons back during World War I that we oftentimes don't get to see in games, so this opens up DICE to get creative with the weapons. Not to mention that the game doesn't necessarily have to center around trench warfare. The puzzle adventure game Valiant Hearts managed to stay intriguing and interesting without focusing solely on the soldiers stuck in the trenches. And yes, while Battlefield would be focused on the actual battlefields where the war took place, they could get creative with the maps and locations, from munitions factories, to railroad stations, and airfields.
That's not to mention that many of the flying vehicles would be based on the legendary bi-planes and tri-planes that were famous during that era.
In actuality, a Battlefield game set during World War I could make for some entertaining and intense gameplay. A lot of it will depend on how DICE decides to structure the maps and how what weapons and vehicles they add to the game.
Recently the Battlefield games have been focusing on modern warfare and police warfare, with the last game in the series being Visceral Games' Battlefield: Hardline. The game was not received all that well due to many gamers feeling as if it was just a re-skin job of Battlefield 4.

I tend to doubt most people would think that a World War I shooter could be a re-skin job of Battlefield: Hardline, but a lot of the game's appeal will be based on how engrossing and intense DICE is able to make the newest shooter.
Electronic Arts already confirmed a new Battlefield game is on the way, now it's just a matter of them officially announcing it and letting gamers know exactly what the theme will be once it preps for release on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
