Capcom's release schedule for early 2010 seems really crowded. Or at least it did until this morning, when they announced they were delaying several titles.
Lost Planet 2, Super Street Fighter IV, and the North American version of Monster Hunter Tri have been pushing into the next fiscal year according to this tweet from Capcom. It may not necessarily be a big delay - their fiscal year runs from April 1st to March 31st so it's possible one of those games will arrive in April 2010 instead of, say, February.
"This decision is in response to rapid changes in market conditions caused primarily by the 4th quarter introduction by competitors of a large number of new games," states a revised sales forecast released by Capcom. "Capcom believes that delaying the launches of its own titles will avoid competing with these new games, maximize the sales volume of the new Capcom games, and preserve the value of the brands associated with these games."
In other words, all those 2009 holiday games that got pushed into 2010 are cramping Capcom's style. They released Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 in early 2009 and managed to rack up quite a bit of money in the midst of low competition and they were hoping to do that again.
