MLB 2K13 Names David Price As This Year's Cover Athlete
Major League Baseball 2K13 is set to hit store shelves on March 5 and, today, 2K Sports announced that Cy Young Award Winner and Tampa Bay Rays’ top pitcher David Price will be gracing the game’s cover for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
2K Sports recently got through all of the annual contractual jibba-jabba with the MLB recently and, according to VP of Marketing Jason Argent, are now ready to announce the release date (March 5), cover athlete (David Price) and initial details about the returning Perfect Game Challenge.
“We’d like to thank our league partners for their support in helping us reach an agreement to bring back MLB 2K” said Argent. “We know fans are extremely passionate about the MLB 2K series and the Perfect Game Challenge.”
When the game hits store shelves next month, it will feature the likeness of one David Price, who went 20-5 for the Rays last season and recorded a league-best 2.56 ERA. According to 2K, Price actually edged out MLB 2K12 cover athlete Justin Verlander for the honor.
Price was pretty gracious about his upcoming appearance on the game’s cover.
“It’s a dream come true to appear on the cover of MLB 2K13,” Price said. “I’m looking forward to working with the 2K Sports team again, and welcoming another skilled gamer into ‘The Perfect Club.’”
Speaking of this year’s iteration of the Perfect Game Challenge, details are pretty scarce at the moment. 2K said the competition will once again offer a $1 million prize, as well as introduce a new contest format and new ways to win. With more than a million attempts and 1,000 perfect games registered during the 2012 season, it will likely be another heated competition in 2013. More details will surface leading up to the MLB 2K13 March 5 release date.
