Rockstar Games detailed their extensive plans for Max Payne 3's downloadable content this morning. They intend to release seven DLC packs over the course of 2012, with the first coming in June.
The first DLC pack is called "Local Justice." It adds the multiplayer map Police Precinct for Gang Wars, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer modes. Two additional maps will also be included, along with multiplayer avatar items and challenges.
Rockstar plans to then release six pieces of DLC across the summer and fall:
Summer 2012
- Disorganized Crime Map Pack
- Deathmatch Made In Heaven Mode Pack
- Hostage Negotiation Map Pack
- New York Minute Co-Op Pack
Fall 2012
- Painful Memories Map Pack
- Trickle Down Economics Map Pack
It's rare to see a developer lay out such a detailed plan for their DLC. However, it's sort of a necessity for Rockstar. They want to convince you that the all-inclusive Rockstar DLC Pass is worth your money. The MP3 Rockstar DLC Pass, priced at $29.99, entitles you to all DLC released for the game this year. It's said to be 35% cheaper than purchasing the DLC packs individually. The Pass is now available for pre-order through Best Buy, GameStop and PSN.
The PC sometimes misses out on DLC but not in this case. The release schedule applies to all three platforms. PC gamers will still have to wait a bit longer than console owners to get the game itself, though.

In the press release, Rockstar also made some mention of bonus DLC for pre-order customers. They'll announce additional details closer to the game's launch.
