Metal Slug XX, Handful Of Discounts Hit PS Plus Today
It's an extremely light week for PlayStation Plus, featuring just one game and a handful of discounts for subscribers of Sony's premium game service to choose from. In the wake of all of these summer sales taking part on every platform, however, it's hard to complain that we're not getting enough free/discounted content on this particular day.
For starters, let's get the most time sensitive piece of information out of the way first. Now that the PlayStation Play 2013 promotion is on, Plus subscribers are able to pre-order any of the titles that are part of the promotion at a 20 percent discount. This is important because the first game in the Play line-up, Stealth Inc.: A Clone in the Dark will be arriving today. Usually priced at 10 bucks, you can pick up Stealth Inc. for a tidy $7.99 so long as you act this morning, before the weekly PSN update goes live this afternoon. You'll still have another week to save 20 percent on the other games in the collection, including Cloudberry Kingdom, ibb & obb and DuckTails, but you'll need to act fast if you want to get all sneaky on the cheap.
As a reminder, Stealth Inc is a cross-buy game for the PS3 and Vita, so one purchase will grant you access to both versions of the game. According to the game's Lead Designer, Sam Robinson, Stealth Inc is actually a pretty simple game at its core.
“Why do stealth games have to be so slow,” he asked on the >PlayStation Blog. “We love stealth games in the office. For us, the best parts are the evasion, the thrill of outsmarting your enemies and the satisfaction of working out the ideal path. We wanted to make a game that focused on these parts, and skipped the bits where you're waiting around for a guard to move out of the way, or running back to a hiding place because you've been discovered. You know what happens when you're discovered in Stealth Inc.? You explode.”
Those are some pretty high stakes. But you can't fault a team for wanting to get straight at the heart of a genre and make it the focus of a game. If that sounds like fun to you, Stealth Inc. will be available in today's regularly scheduled PSN update. But, like I said, the only way you can get the Plus discount is if you pre-order it before then, so chop-chop.
Other than that, this week's Plus offerings are a bit on the humble side, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be excited to take advantage of them.
First up is the new addition to the Instant Game Collection, Metal Slug XX for the PSP and Vita. Usually 20 bucks, this side-scrolling shoot-em-up packs all of the carnage and style of the Metal Slug series into the palm of your hand and, if you're a Plus subscriber, it's coming at ya free starting today.

Finally, there's a discount on the Thomas Was Alone DLC, Benjamin's Flight. Normally going for $2.49, Plus subscribers can take 30 percent off of that price tag throughout the next week and enjoy the DLC for just $1.74.
