Have you ever looked at a movie poster and wondered what it would look like if it was drawn entirely with colored cubes? Well, wonder no more. Minecraft players have remade 25 movie posters within the game.
"We posted a few of these posters to Reddit a few months ago without titles. All are in-game screenshots, photoshop was only used for the titles and small tweaks (eg. more pixels in The Conjuring rope to make it more visible)," one of the creators said on Reddit.
The 25 movies chosen range from contemporary hits like Magic Mike and Inception to classics like Forrest Gump and The Exorcist. The collection skews more toward modern movies but nonetheless the present-day picks are a diverse mix. It's not just a bunch of posters with the hero's back to us.
Minecraft characters aren't known for having realistic facial expressions. That made some of the live-action posters especially challenging. I love the creators' attempt to recreate characters' emotions in the The Shining posters. Here's the Minecraft version along with the actual movie poster for comparison's sake:
The artists' take on Steve Carell's child-like smile and terrible polo shirt in the 40 Year Old Virgin movie poster are admirable as well:
Minecraft has always been a popular way for creative gamers to pay tribute to their favorite movies and shows. Homages to other games are even more common, though. Players have recreated game trailers and in some cases entire games using the open-world building game.
