Minecraft's huge success on the PC has carried over into the mobile market. Developer Mojang revealed this weekend that iOS and Android users have bought over one million copies of Minecraft Pocket Edition.
"Minecraft - Pocket Edition has now sold more than 1 million copies. Thanks all for the support and I hope you will like the coming updates!" tweeted Mojang developer Daniel Kaplan.
Pocket Edition debuted on the Xperia Play last August. It was opened up to all Android users in October. The iOS debut occurred in November. The split in sales between these platforms wasn't disclosed.
Like the PC version, Minecraft Pocket Edition sets player loose on a randomized world and allows them to build whatever structures they want. The mobile version lags a bit behind its home computer counterpart in terms of features, though. Mojang plans to support Pocket Edition with constant updates to bring it up to speed. An update in February added Survival mode, zombies, and more.
According to Minecraft's official website, over 5.1 million copies of the game have been sold in total. The upcoming Xbox 360 version should grow Mojang's pile of money even more.
