Mortal Kombat X Is Adding Four Free Fatalities
NetherRealm Studios released a free DLC pack for Mortal Kombat X containing four classic Fatalities. The moves are a throwback to the old-school finishers that four of the original Mortal Kombat cast members employed back during the days of full-motion video sprites.
Kotaku posted up the video compilation of the old-school Fatalities courtesy of YouTuber Synn. You can check it out below.
For those of you who can't watch the video right now, the clip contains just under a minute of Fatalities performed by some of the series' regulars.
First we see Sub Zero performing his classic spine-rip Fatality. It's straightforward and to the point, but NetherRealm upped it up just a little bit by having the opponent grasp and claw at the air in front of them before they fall over.
The second free Fatality added to Mortal Kombat X is Scorpion's fire breathing finisher. He rips off his mask and roasts the living flesh off his opponent. It's a fast and fiery finisher with hardly any changes made to it from the one that appeared in the original Mortal Kombat.
The third Fatality is Sonya's kiss of death. This one was a classic because it's hard to forget the little ball that flies across the screen, hits an opponent and causes them to go up in flames. In fact, out of all the classic Fatalities this one seems to fit Mortal Kombat X's atmosphere the most. If they had put just a bit more time into the melting-away process I think this could have been a more devastating finisher for Sonya than the two she currently has.
The final one is for Johnny Cage. It's just a standard uppercut that knocks an opponent's head off. It's pretty lame. In fact, I thought this finisher was lame way back in the original Mortal Kombat and seeing it again makes me realize just how lame it still is.

I have to say that I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't do Kano's Fatality. Out of everyone I always thought that him ripping out his opponent's heart was one of the most gruesome Fatalities in the game. It would have seemed like Kano would have been a shoe-in for a classic Fatality in Mortal Kombat X.
Then again, I wasn't really fond of the focus on the Cage family in Mortal Kombat X's story, it just seemed like the focus should have been on characters that better represent eastern martial arts like Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Kenshi or Kitana.
Anyway, the download pack featuring the free Fatalities are available right now for those of you who purchased Mortal Kombat X. In addition to the free Fatality pack there's also the introduction of the Predator DLC bundle for people who purchased the Kombat Pack.
