Activision announced that they're publishing another NASCAR video game. NASCAR Unleashed is in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and 3DS.
Unleashed lets players choose from 15 NASCAR drivers, including Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. They can race on official NASCAR tracks like Daytona International Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Martinsville Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. If you'd rather go joyriding, you can leave the raceway and explore the city outside it.
"NASCAR has been tremendous in that they've given us the flexibility to design different kinds of racing games for their vast audience," said David Oxford, Activision Publishing executive vice president. "We really wanted to make something electrifying for all NASCAR fans, not just the hardcore. NASCAR Unleashed gives players a new style of speed and excitement, without sacrificing accessibility.”
Unleashed is an arcade racer rather than a simulation. Your laws of physics won't help you here. You're expected to just knock other drivers out of the way as you race toward the checkered flag. Drafting and sling-shotting successfully will earn you boost power-ups. A simple heads-up display will keep you informed of your race position, speed, Achievements and unlocks.
"NASCAR Unleashed is a wild and imaginative experience with few real world boundaries,” said Blake Davidson, vice president of licensing and consumer products at NASCAR. “By integrating NASCAR into a high octane, blindingly fast, home racing experience, we can deliver an entirely unique style of racing that will captivate players and help introduce our sport to new fans.”
Activision plans to release NASCAR Unleashed this fall.
