EA's looking to take their flagship basketball franchise, NBA Live, in a new direction. First and foremost, they'll be renaming it NBA Elite.
The latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, which revealed the name change, explains that the gameplay will undergo some fundamental alterations as well. In NBA Elite 11, the right analog stick will become a bigger part of the control scheme. It will be used for pretty much any act that requires hands. Dribbling behind your back, for example, will require you to sweep your analog stick around.
You'll shoot with the stick, too. This is a big difference from the old system of simply pressing a face button to chuck up the ball. It means your accuracy's more tied to your ability to move the stick in the right manner rather than your player's attributes.
"We knew it was time to leave the past behind," an EA spokesperson told Kotaku. "We have exciting and significant changes coming to our NBA game this year that will usher in the future of basketball video games. We look forward to releasing information on exactly how we'll be doing that over the next few months."
