Ready at Dawn aired a new gameplay video for The Order 1886 this afternoon. The video shows off three minutes of new footage from the PS4 exclusive.
The gameplay video deserves some context. The Order 1886 takes place in an alternate history in which humanity is threatened by human/animal hybrids. Mankind is defended by Knights, descendants of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table. They have discovered a magical liquid called the Black Water that allows them to heal themselves instantly and live longer.
By the time of the game, the Knights have advanced technology at their disposal. They have grenades, mines and even weapons that fire electricity. Their gadgets also let them communicate wirelessly with each other or see in the dark.
The Order 1886 centers on four Knights operating in London. In the video (via GameHQMedia), they're battling through the streets of a rough neighborhood. It doesn't take long for them to get in a fight with the locals.
The main character, Grayson, brings a thermite to bear in the battle. The rifle fires rounds of thermite gas. They create clouds of flammable dust, which can then be ignited with flares, the rifle's secondary fire.
The gameplay doesn't seem like anything we haven't seen before. It's a third-person, cover-based shooter. The game does look gorgeous, though. Ready at Dawn previously confirmed that the game runs at 1080p. A few HD screenshots culled from the trailer are below, via NeoGAF.
I'm interested by the story, too. We only know a bit about it but the combination of steampunk, alternate history and Arthurian legend gives Order 1886 loads of potential. Shooters often give their stories short shrift but this might be one of the few exceptions.
