The Order: 1886 Prepares For Launch With Story Trailer
Get your dapper mustaches and anachronistic firepower ready, because it’s almost time to dive into the dark and mysterious world of The Order: 1886. Launching exclusively on the PlayStation 4 next month, the team at Ready at Dawn have pulled back the curtain on the latest trailer, showcasing the game’s intriguing story. Also, werewolves.
Ready at Dawn’s The Order: 1886 is like a crazy amalgam of things. It looks to have the shooting mechanics of Gears of War, mixed with the story of an Underworld movie and a cast of characters pulled from a Steampunk convention. We know that the game aims to tell the secret history of an organization that’s been fighting terrifying creatures throughout time, but much of the tales story beats remain a mystery.
That’s actually a great thing, as I enjoy discovering a game’s story as I play it, as opposed to piece meal for 12 months via trailers sporting far too much information. We know the basics but, even with the latest story trailer released on the PlayStation Blog, nobody is too certain what the game is all about.
According to Ready at Dawn CEO and Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya, this trailer was released in celebration of The Order going gold, meaning its ready to print and launch in time for its Feb. 20 debut.
“It’s almost hard to believe that the game is wrapped up,” Weerasuriya said in the post. “There are definitely times when we miss the madness that takes place when finishing a game. From our first initial pitch of the project back in 2010, to growing our team over the last four years, we have poured all our energy and passion into this game and we can’t wait for everyone to experience it.”
Before The Order: 1886, Ready at Dawn was perhaps best known for its two God of War games released on the PlayStation Portable. The fact that they managed to create a home console experience on a last gen handheld, not to mention the fact that I enjoyed both of those PSP offerings as much as their home console counterparts, speaks well of their talent. When the PS4 was ramping up development, the team decided to graduate to the new machine and, boom, now we have The Order to look forward to.
Weerasuriya went on to discuss tidbits recently revealed about the new game, including its Neo-London setting, the Order itself and the weapons and technology the team has access to courtesy of Nikola Tesla.
