PS4's The Order: 1886 Throws A Bone To The Lycans With New Info
In The Order: 1886, you and your elite crew of soldiers will be taking on enemies far more monstrous than human soldiers. One such nasty-wasty is the lycan, which is just a fancy way of saying, “dude, you’re going to be fighting werewolves in this game.” To prepare players for the upcoming war on darkness, Ready at Dawn Studios have put together a nice guide to one of your hairier opponents.
Ever since I was a little kid, all I ever wanted to do with my life is live out a real world version of The Monster Squad. For those of you who weren’t raised properly and missed out on this cinematic masterpiece, the film revolves around a group of kids who have to band together in order to fight a group of classic movie monsters including Dracula, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and, yes, the Wolf Man.
Following Ready at Dawn’s showing of The Order 1886 during the Sony 2014 E3 press conference, it looks like I’ll finally be living out those fantasies, at least in a virtual sense. The brief segment of gameplay showed off a soldier going toe-to-toe with a lycan, matching wits against brawn and firepower against bloodlust. It’s a pretty rad scene, and I look forward to seeing how that kind of combat actually plays out when the game finally releases next year.
To help tide everyone over, though, a new video diary highlighting the full-moon-loving creature has made its way to the internet, letting players know what they can expect out these new and terrifying enemies.
The Order is kind of a tricky game to pin down. We know we will take control of a soldier who is fighting for a secret organization to destroy some evil dudes. Their gear is a bit anachronistic and they even seem to have some magical/supernatural enhancements of their own, such as a potion that appears to heal wounds instantly after drinking it. Now, though, it looks like werewolves are a part of the opposition, which should provide a far more interesting threat than the standard gun-toting grunts we’ve seen up to this point.
Will these lycans be the only monster-inspired baddies to pop up in The Order? I suppose time will tell on that count. Either way, I’ve grown a bit wary of your standard shooting fare these days, so inventive weapons, intriguing new (yet familiar) worlds and unexpected enemies are certainly a welcome sign.
And, for those of you looking to go all in with a purchase, the developers have also revealed a limited premium edition of the game, boasting a statue featuring one of the elder lycans, stickers, a soundtrack, a nifty book/potion holder and more. No word yet on a price point for that bad boy, but the contents of it can be seen in the image at the top of this post.
