Designer Adam Heart is designing a game called Divekick that pokes fun at the fighting game genre. However, in order to release the game to the public, he needs money. He's turned to - where else - Kickstarter for the funding.
Fighting games typically have extremely complex controls. However, Divekick has just two buttons: jumping, and kicking. You can't walk back and forth. The objective is to land five kicks on your opponent before he does the same.
The fights, as you can see from the video below, are filled with frantic drop-kicking. There is some additional strategy not apparent from the footage, though. By building up your Kick-Meter, you'll be able to enter Kick-Factor mode to jump higher and kick faster. If you hit an opponent in the head, they'll get a concussion and move slower.
Heart is hoping to raise $30,000 by August 1st so that the game can be released on the PC. If they reach $40,000, they'll add online multiplayer. The last stretch goal of $50,000 will enable him to add extra characters and a story mode.
A November 2012 release is planned for the game. To find out more, check out the Kickstarter entry.
