PlanetSide 2 Finally Assaults PS4 This Month
It’s been a long time coming, but the free-to-play first-person shooter, PlanetSide 2 is finally geared up and ready to roll on the PlayStation 4, set to launch for Sony’s home console on June 23.
You read that right; we’re only a couple of weeks out from finally being able to get our hands on PlanetSide 2 on the PS4 here in the States, bringing with it all of the massive firefights, explosions, vehicles and firepower the series has become known for on PC.
Director of Development Andy Sites made the news official yesterday evening on the PlayStation Blog, saying that the game’s months-long beta test is finally ready to wrap up and make way for the game proper.
“PlanetSide 2 is a revolutionary, massive scale, first-person shooter where soldiers battle as one in strategic, targeted missions against enemy Empires in an all-out planetary war,” Sites explained. “Massive communities with unwavering camaraderie band together in PlanetSide 2 as the game challenges the skill and grit of the most seasoned soldier through intense infantry, air, and ground vehicles gameplay.”
That all likely sounds like a bunch of grand promises to the uninitiated, but it’s actually right on the money. PlanetSide 2 lets you play on foot, in a mech, driving land vehicles or bombarding enemies with missiles fired from in the air. On top of that, literally hundreds of players are on a map at one time (The record is 1,158), with more concentrated battles taking place all over the landscape. Here’s a look at the game in motion.
PlanetSide 2 has been growing a community on the PC for years now, so it’s nice to know that the same gameplay will finally be making its way to consoles. The idea of being a launch title for Sony’s new console was being kicked around back in 2013, but it wasn’t ready for prime time yet. PlanetSide 2 finally went into beta earlier this year, giving the development team a chance to iron out any last minute kinks before the big launch.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into streamlining and improving the feature set so that PS4 players will have the ultimate massive-scale, FPS gaming experience,” Sites continued. “We’ve also incorporated some unique features that are currently exclusive to the PS4 version.”
