We're still weeks away from Sony announcing the free April games for PlayStation Plus. However, Sony Europe was willing to reveal one of these freebies early.
In their announcement for the March PS Plus lineup, Sony accidentally included a link to stealth-action game Dishonored. They explained on Twitter that this was a mix-up and Dishonored will actually be free next month:
Dishonored was released by Arkane Studios in 2012. One of the game's creative directors was Harvey Smith, who also served as designer on the first two Deus Ex games. Dishonored is a lot like Deus Ex in that it's a first-person action game that gives players a lot of freedom. They can kill everyone in sight, avoid all enemies, or follow a strategy somewhere in the middle of those extremes. Whether you're planning to be stealthy or violent, you'll have plenty of options on how to proceed thanks to a small arsenal of gadgets, powers and weapons at your disposal.
I considered Dishonored one of the best games of 2012 and Steve agreed with me in his review. The morality system was a little annoying (the game basically punished you for not being stealthy) and the A.I. could be wonky at times but I felt it was a great addition to the small collection of shoot-or-sneak games out there.
My hope is that many of you have already purchased the game by now. After all, the Game of the Year Edition, which includes challenge rooms and an extra campaign, is only $20. You could probably find a used copy of the base game for $10 at this point, too. If you somehow missed the game, though, you should really download it next month on PS3.
During April, Sony will also continue the Spring Fever Sale in effect since last week. PS Plus owners will be able to take advantage of exclusive discounts on new indie releases for PlayStation Plus. Sony will also be hosting franchise-wide sales on Dragon Age, Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto
The current crop of PlayStation Plus games include World War I adventure Valiant Hearts: The Great War and puzzle-platformer Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee — New ‘n’ Tasty! for PS4. PS3 owners can download detective game Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments and fantasy side-scroller Papo & Yo. Rounding out the freebies are 2D skateboarding game OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood for PS4 and PS Vita along with stealth adventure CounterSpy for PS4, PS3 and Vita.
