We're closing in on the end of August so it's time for Sony to announce the next group of free games coming to PlayStation Plus members. In September, they'll be able to download six titles across the PS4, PS Vita and PS3.
Here's what you'll be able to download for free starting on September 1st:
- Grow Home - PS4
- Super Time Force Ultra - PS4
- Xeodrifter - PS4, PS Vita
- Twisted Metal - PS3
- Teslagrad - PS4, PS3
- La-Mulana EX
The first of the batch, Grow Home, follows a robot trying to grow an enormous Star Plant so he can bring its seeds back to his homeworld. You can determine the shape that the plant will take as it grows skyward. While climbing the plant, you'll find floating islands as well as other alien plants and animals. You'll also encounter items that can help them quickly traverse the Star Plant including leaf gliders and flower parachutes.
Grow Home beat out Armello and Zombie Vikings for the PlayStation Plus slot thanks to fan voting. If you want those other two games, PlayStation.Blog says you can buy them at a 30% discount from September 1st to the 15th.
Super Time Force Ultra is a fast-paced side-scroller with an interesting time travel twist. When you die, you can rewind to earlier in the level and take control of one of your companion characters. Then you can continue the action with your past self fighting alongside you. The key to success is learning from your past mistakes and also figuring out ways to use your past selves as effectively as possible.
Xeodrifter is another retro game. It takes inspiration from Metroidvania games, with equal amounts of exploration, shooting and platforming. The player is an explorer investigating four planets. While fighting their way across these alien worlds, they'll acquire powers that let them access new areas.
If you're still hungry for more Metroidvania action, you can download La-Mulana EX as well. This game takes you into ancient ruins filled with traps and dangerous enemies. As you get deeper into the ruins, you'll find ancient evils that must be stopped.

Twisted Metal is a 2012 reboot of the beloved vehicle combat series. The big difference between this game and its predecessors is the emphasis on online multiplayer. You can join up with three friends for split-screen or up to 15 other players for online matches. There's also a single-player campaign for traditionalists.
In Teslagrad, you'll explore a dangerous and long-forgotten Tesla Tower. You can find and use gadgets like Magnet Gloves and a Polarity Cloak to traverse obstacles and defeat enemies, including massive bosses.
These games won't be available until September 1st so you've still got a few days to grab the August freebies if you haven't already.
