PlayStation Vita Celebrates Third Birthday With Discounts

Vita fans looking for new games to keep them busy in the coming months will want to drop by the PlayStation Network starting tomorrow afternoon, as Sony has announced a third birthday celebration for the portable console, offering a handful of free goodies and discounts of up to 80 percent off a whole bunch of games.
It’s hard to believe, but the PlayStation Vita turns three years old this week, and Sony is celebrating by rolling back prices on everything from indie gems to digital releases of various retail games. If you’re looking to flesh out your portable catalog, lighten the bank account and play a whole bunch of games, now would be a good time to fill up that memory card.
Keep in mind that these prices won’t go live until the PlayStation Network updates Tuesday afternoon, so you can use the time between now and then to budget accordingly. Regular shoppers can expect discounts of up to 70 percent off while Plus Subscribers will save up to 80 percent. Also, these prices will be good for a full week, so you’ve got until March 3 to make all of those tricky buying decisions.
As for the freebies, a trio of goodies will be available starting tomorrow afternoon. For starters, everyone can grab a Toro and Friends theme for their Vita, featuring Japan’s console mascot and his goofy companions. Those of you enjoying Fat Princess: Piece of Cake will be able to swipe eight gold coins for the free-to-play puzzler, while Destiny of Spirits fans can look forward to a Himiko spirit to add to their collection.
As for the anniversary discounts, a total of 38 games are being discounted for the next seven days, and you can check out the full list over on the PlayStation Blog. There’s a little something for everyone included in the sale, including everything from JRPG Atelier Meruru Plus ($23.99/$15.99) to rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd ($23.99/$19.99) and haunting platformer, Limbo ($5/$3).
If you passed up on FPS Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, you can grab it this next week for $15 regular or $10 with Plus. The brilliant trap-setting game, Deception IV: Blood Ties can be yours for $23.99/$15.99, while brawler PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale will set you back just $9/$5.40.
If you haven’t stepped into your worst nightmares in Silent Hill: Book of Memories, then you’ll be able to do so for $17.99 regular or $14.99. And then there’s the massive RPG, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, going for just $17.99 regular or $14.99 with Plus.
