Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will take the awesomely named Slowbro to new heights. A new gameplay trailer aired at the 2014 Pokémon World Championships shows Slowbro undergoing a Mega Evolution.
Slowbro has been in the Pokemon series since the very first games. He's a Water- and Psychic-type Pokemon and an evolved form of Slowpoke. He looks almost exactly like a Slowpoke, actually, except that a Shellder has latched onto his tail.
Mega Slowbro doesn't keep Shellder on his tail. Instead, he wears it as a suit of armor. This boosts Mega Slowbro's Defense stat significantly. His Shell Armor Ability prevents opponents from landing critical hits on him. He also has high Special Attack in this form. In other words, he's a marathon runner who can slowly wear out his opponent. You can see screenshots compared his normal form to his Mega state in the gallery below. Here's some footage of Mega Slowbro in action:
Mega Evolutions were introduced in Pokemon X and Y. These transformations only occur in battle when the Pokemon's trainer uses special items called Mega Stones. Mega Evolution gives the Pokemon a boost in power but only lasts until the end of that battle. These Mega Pokemon will revert to their original format once combat is over. Fortunately, Mega Stones don't get used up each time they're activated so they can be activated in more than one battle.
Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes of the 2002 Game Boy Advance titles Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Players will journey through a new incarnation of Hoenn Region rebuilt with 3D graphics. In this quest they'll encounter Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, transformed versions of the Legendary Fire and Water Pokemon featured in the original Ruby and Sapphire.
Poekmon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will launch on 3DS and 2DS on November 21st in Japan, North America and Australia. The European launch will occur a week later.
