Project CARS Trailer Stirs Up A Hurricane
Another fan-made community trailer has gone live for Project CARS, showcasing the game's actual in-game graphics and Slightly Mad Studios' progress on the crowd-funded project so far. And yes, Project CARS is the second AAA crowd-funded title coming to the market next to Chris Roberts' Star Citizen.
The video above isn't as fancy or as technically proficient with the editing as a Jonz' movie, but come on...how many professionally marketed game trailers are as good as Jonz' movies? Yeah, exactly, you would be hard pressed to name another trailer that wasn't laced with CG from back to front that's as good as his videos.
Anyway, Project CARS is the next generation of video game racing titles. It's due out in 2014 after being delayed again at the start of the new year, but it looks absolutely marvelous. It's a stunning spectacle of 3D beauty propelled by digitally motorized magnificence.
If there is one thing I can already fault the game for (and this could stand liable for change) are the smoke effects. Right now Gran Turismo 5 is still the best racing game on the market for unparalled simulated volumetric smoke effects. I don't know how Polyphony Digital managed to pull it off on the PS3 but the smoke from burnouts and drifting looks drop dead amazing.
If Slightly Mad Studios can capture the same level of realism with their smoke effects as Gran Turismo 5, then they could be in the running for the greatest simulated racing game with the most splendid graphics on the market. But we'll see if the studio can pull it together and churn out a masterpiece.
