Rain Introduces PlayStation Network To The Invisible Boy

Caught in the mix of all of the big PlayStation Vita announcements and AAA trailers being shown off during Sony's recent Gamescom press conference, another title from Japan Studio has managed to fly just under the radar. It's called rain, and so much about the game is shrouded in mystery that even rain might not turn out to be it's official title.

From the Gamescom reveal trailer, we learn that the player takes on the role of a young boy who, lured into the rain by the form of a mysterious girl, becomes invisible. The world is lush and detailed but (and here's the cool hook), the boy can only be seen while actually standing in the downpour. You can see him splash through puddles or leave wet footprints in the covered areas but, otherwise, the kid becomes something of a ghost.

So how will this rain mechanic fit into the gameplay? Is there something more to do than run around in these beautiful environments? Who is that girl and why is she being chased by what looks like a very angry dog? If you were hoping any of that would be followed by some answers, I hate to disappoint you, but I have none. The game doesn't even have a projected release date. All we know is that it's headed to the PlayStation Network and it looks as intriguing as all get-out.

These experimental games are exactly the kind of thing that gets my blood pumping. I'll take buckets of bullets or a trusty sword any day of the week, but what truly piques my interest are these games coming from folks who clearly have something new to say, and are saying it in a new and risky way.

Tokyo Game Show is just around the corner, so here's hoping we'll snag some additional details then. Or not. Just based on this reveal trailer, I'm ready to give rain a shot while keeping as much of this wonderful mystery intact.
