Rainbow 6: Patriots Announced, Coming 2013 For Xbox 360, PS3
Man, 2013? Ubisoft, Really? Anyway, as the headline states Ubisoft announced that a new Rainbow 6 is in development, following up on the heels of the rumors that surfaced not too long ago that a new Rainbow 6 game would be on the way.
Also, as the headline states, the game is in development for current gen consoles and PC and slated for a very distant 2013 launch.
David Sears, creative director at Ubisoft stated that…
I like the sound of that. They already ruined Splinter Cell by making it more like a high-octane version of 24 with Splinter Cell: Conviction, which wouldn’t have been bad had it still maintained many of the features that made Splinter Cell popular in the first place. At least with Patriots it sounds as if the game is sticking with its roots the way it was back on PC and the N64, with a strong focus on team tactics and strategic counter terrorism efforts.
The new game puts players in a very morally ambiguous scenario where the “True Patriots” of America are on the rise, and they want to take back the country from corrupt politicians and greedy corporatists. Sounds like my kind of guys…except for the highly trained to kill without mercy part.
Given that these new kind of terrorists aren’t exactly Taliban-touting, AK-47 wielding foreigners, players will be put in tough situations making equally tough moral calls in a difficult social and economic climate.
What’s more is that the game will also have a robust multiplayer feature as well, including co-op missions that will require edge-of-your-seat coordination for super-elite tactical takedowns and executions. Apparently communication will be key this time around.
