Rayman Legends Challenges App Sprints Onto Wii U Today

When it was announced a couple of months ago that Rayman Legends’ release date was being pushed back on the Wii U to make room for multiplatform ports, quite a few fans of the series were disappointed that they would have to wait until August to get their hands on the game. Wii U gamers can now get at least a small taste of what’s to come, however, as Ubisoft announces the launch of a free Rayman Legends Challenges app through the eShop.
One of the best aspects of Rayman Origins were the speed run levels that had players darting through constantly scrolling and evolving environments, trying to make it from platform to platform while dodging and punching their way through obstacles. Those levels required expert timing, a willingness to learn from your mistakes and, yeah, a dash of luck.
Those fantastic levels are getting their own mode in the upcoming Rayman Legends, something Wii U players can now take advantage of nice and early as a free app available starting today through the eShop.
“The Wii U exclusive online challenges app is a totally free application containing the online challenges mode of Rayman Legends,” reads a statement from Ubisoft. “In this game mode, players will find updated daily and weekly challenges to compete online with their friends and players from all around the world.”
Levels include the Land of the Livid Dead, the Neverending Pitt, the Infinite Tower and Murfy’s Dungeon. There are nine modes of play to dive into, levels are randomly generated and you’ll be able to see how you stack up against the rest of the world in leaderboards. Doing well in these levels will allow players to unlock Extreme Challenges, as well as unlock new outfits and playable characters.
Grab the Rayman Legends Online Challenges app on the Wii U now and look for the game to launch on Nintendo’s home console, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 come Aug. 30.
