Rockstar Games has announced that its San Diego studio will be developing a sequel to the 2004 Xbox/PS2 third-person shooter Red Dead Revolver. Red Dead Redemption will be released for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Red Dead Redemption puts player in control of John Marston, a former outlaw, in the last days of the Wild West. Not much of the plot is revealed but presumably Marston runs afoul of the government and industrial giants now asserting their control over the West. The game uses the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) also utilized in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV and will feature a massive open-world environment with prairies, frontier towns, mountain passes, and plenty of people trying to kill you.
Redemption is set for a Fall 2009 release. The official website has a few pictures but is pretty lean on information.
