Road Redemption Update Video Features Everything Road Rash Fans Crave
Darkseas Interactive has released an updated video for Road Redemption, the Road Rash style action-racing game that aims to bring back all the awesome motorcycle action that helped shape the 16-bit (and a little bit of the 32-bit) era.
The team at Darkseas Interactive barely hit their original goal for Road Redemption last spring. It was a tough uphill climb for the studio as they tried securing enough funding to ensure that the vision of the new-age redo of a classic series was brought to life in the right way.
A lot of gamers didn't originally think that they would make the deadline, but they pulled through. The game was also successfully greenlit on Steam's Greenlight service. Opening up the door for Darkseas to have their game front and center on the Steam store when the time goes.
The video above shows that progress on the game is moving along slowly but steadily. You can see there are still tons of place-holder assets in place, such as generic riders and motorcycles. The highlight of the video, though, is that the game still seems to embody the vision that a lot of fans have been craving from the title ever since it was announced as a proper Road Rash successor. I mean, it's not like we're ever going to see a proper return to form of the franchise from Electronic Arts... it would need more DRM.
Anyway, I'm fairly impressed with the progress so far. They have eight months until their expected due date of August. This gives them plenty of time to iron out the game's core mechanics, the physics, the combat and the bike handling.
I haven't been keeping up completely with the game or its updates since the game finished its Kickstarter run, but one thing I think would be pretty neat and would certainly help cut down on development time and increase the game's viability for a long tail-end is Steam Workshop support.
If Darkseas lets users create a lot of the tracks, bike liveries and rider outfits – not unlike the way Nadeo setup the Trackmania games – they could focus more on the core game mechanics, while users can expand and extend the game content of Road Redemption.

Also, it's great that Darkseas Interactive is showing a lot of support for the Wii U. The game is scheduled to arrive for both the Xbox 360 and Wii U, as far as consoles go, and this is great news for Nintendo fanboys and fangirls alike, as it's been a long while since a Nintendo system received a game like Road Redemption. In fact, I believe the last game of this kind on a Nintendo system was THQ's Road Rash 64.
I know Early Access gets a lot of beef, but I can't wait for this game to hit Early Access because I've been craving a new Road Rash game for ages. If you want to keep up to date on the progress of development, feel free to pay a visit to the official Kickstarter page.
