RuneScape 3 Announced For This Summer
One of the longest-running and most successful free-to-play MMORPGs, RuneScape, is gearing up to take players to a whole new level with the announcement of RuneScape 3, coming this summer.
Since launching in 2001, the RuneScape community has garnered more than 220 million adventurers over the past decade. I actually played the game for a while after its initial launch and, judging by what I’m seeing in the above announcement trailer, it looks like the series has come quite a long way since I last stepped foot in RuneScape’s virtual world.
“RuneScape 3 is a massive update to RuneScape, building on more than 12 years of content to make improvements on all fronts,” said Executive Producer Phil Mansell. “RuneScape 3 is going to run faster, look better and feel so much more immersive.”
This latest version of the game will take a “massive leap” forward in the technology department with a fully HTML5 engine, improved graphics, longer draw distances, new audio, new design features and all sorts of new content as the world of RuneScape moves into a new age. But, according to Creative Director Mark Ogilvie, those under the hood improvements are just the beginning.
“RuneScape 3 marks a significant moment in RuneScape’s history as the world enters the sixth age,” Ogilvie said. “All our recent content updates have been building up to this point, massive change is coming, and our players will be able to shape the game with the choices they make. Every single player will have the ability to shape the world.”
For more details, visit the game’s official website. Otherwise, get ready for RuneScape 3 to literally change the game sometime this summer.
