Saints Row 4 Getting GATV And Western Themed DLC
Releasing on the same week as Grand Theft Auto V, Saints Row IV has some new DLC that Volition and Deep Silver hopes will keep you from tuning into Rockstar's seventh generation magnum opus.
Joystick picked up the news from PlayStation BlogCast where it was made known that Volition is using some new DLC to poke some fun at their much larger, much more recognized and much more well-endowed competitor, Grand Theft Auto V. The new DLC is appropriately named GATV... get it? GAT with a 'V'? It's like GTA V but with the 'A' and the 'T' reversed? That's... ehh, nevermind.
Anyway, the new GATV DLC pack will contain all things Johnny Gat. The point of the small pack is to reward players with all the clothing, hairstyles, mannerisms and swag of Saints Row's number one gangster: Johnny Gat.
It doesn't end there, though, the GATV pack will contain a little something extra for gamers in the form of a knifegun. Joystick doesn't seem to have much of a description for the weapon and I didn't hear the whole blogcast to repeat exactly what it's like or what it features. But if I could have a moment to indulge your interest, I would probably speculate (or at least hope) that it's very similar to Squall's gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII. Knowing Volition Software and their penchant to riff, rip and pay homage to some of the greatest (and worst) moments in gaming through the Saints Row series, I wouldn't be surprised if the knifegun was a gunblade (one can dream).
But that's not all! There's more.
Volition has a Western themed DLC pack in the pipeline as well that will also drop with the GATV pack. Unfortunately, Joystiq has no extra information on this pack but come on, it's Saints Row? Given that the game already has a lot of the standard-fare Western attire and clothing options for male and female players, I would suspect that there's an extra simulation tossed in complete with a town and weapons. Again, though, it could be anything. However, I would be lying if I said I wouldn't consider purchasing the DLC myself if it came with a Winchester and a few S&W variations.
For now, you can settle for dreaming about the DLC until it actually drops. Although, I don't know how excited you'll be about some extra DLC packs for Saints Row IV when you have all that glorious awesomeness of Grand Theft Auto V staring you in the face.
