See What's Under Sub-Zero's Mask With This Mortal Kombat PC Mod
A new mod for Mortal Kombat X removes the face meshes (better known as masks) from the pugilists in the game. We finally get to see what's under Sub-Zero's mask, along with other characters like Erron Black and Torr... amongst others.
Gamespot spotted the news from over on the Mortal Kombat X fan site where an imgur album was composed of various characters who have been unmasked.
The characters in the folder includes Torr, Erron Black, Sub-Zero, Revenant Sub-Zero, Jason Voorhees, Rain and Smoke.

The Mortal Kombat fan site has some fairly funny responses from the audience. They mostly all agree that they look hideous without the masks and are quite unsightly.
It should be noted, however, that these particular models were designed with the intention of not being seen. Their faces are only there as placeholders for the masks, although in the case of Sub-Zero somehow he morphed into Jay Leno with a rather sturdy chin.
The one that really gets to me is Jason Voorhees... he looks terrible, and not in a frightening or horrific way. He looks like one of those monsters from the first Far Cry on the OG Xbox... you know, the experiments gone wrong? He could also double-down as the ugly, glitchy Shepard from Mass Effect. If you don't know what I'm talking about just Google up “Ugly Shepard."

Anyway, one character actually does standout from the herd as looking pretty horrendous in a high-quality way, and that's Torr. The one half of the Ferra/Torr combination. He looks pretty wicked with the distorted face and missing skin. In fact, without his mask Torr looks every bit as terrifying as one might imagine. NetherRealm actually seems to have put time and effort into making him look the part, which is strange considering that he isn't supposed to be seen without his mask.
Tinkering around with things like this are always a highlight within the gaming community. Even if nothing comes out of this other than people getting to point and laugh or shrink away in horror, it's cool that some gamers took the time to unmask some of the fighters on the Mortal Kombat X roster.
If the rumors are true that Spawn could be in one of the upcoming DLC packs, it would be pretty cool to see what he looks like unmasked. Then again, based on that Sub-Zero chin and those doll eyes on Jason Voorhees, maybe it would be best if Spawn stayed masked.
Mortal Kombat X released this past April for PC, Xbox One and PS4. The game was scheduled to launch for the Xbox 360 and PS3 late into the summer but the game was effectively delayed. The new date for Mortal Kombat X to appear on the seventh-gen consoles appears to be set for December.
