Shadowrun Dragonfall Expansion Arrives In January
Following an uber-successful Kickstarter campaign and subsequent uber-successful launch, Shadowrun Returns is ready to dish out a brand new batch of content for its faithful players to enjoy as the Dragonfall expansion gets ready to launch early next year.
Set to arrive in January, developer Harebrained Schemes describes Dragonfall as a “major expansion” for their cyberpunk meets fantasy RPG, offering up a second full-length campaign to work through, expanded features and a nice little bundle for those who haven’t gotten in on the action just yet.
Available for Windows, OSX and Linux, the Dragonfall expansion takes place in the city of Berlin, where controlled chaos rules the streets as megacorps, political factions and creative criminals vie for power.
“A place where almost anything goes, and the right connections can be the difference between success and starvation,” according to the official statement from Harebrained Schemes. “Dangerous jobs abound and there’s no better place to earn a quick payday—provided you live long enough to spend it. For you and your team of battle-scarred runners, it’s just another day in the Free City of Berlin.”
For those unfamiliar with Shadowrun, it’s a unique blend of genres as, in the year 2054, magic returns to the world and blends with metal and flesh. Humans with augmentations and the ability to cast spells, mythological creatures and monsters best left in the shadows live together in a society held together by the thinnest of threads. Players take on the role of shadowrunners, “mercenaries living on the fringes of society, surviving day-by-day on skill and instinct alone.”
The game proper is readily available right this very moment, but the Dragonfall expansion won’t be out until early 2014. The new Dragonfall campaign will go for $14.99 when it launches, and it will require the original game to be played. No worries, though, as you can also pick up a Shadowrun Campaign Pack, which includes the original RPG and the Dragonfall DLC (when it releases) for just $24.99. If you haven’t jumped into the world of Shadowrun Returns just yet, that’s definitely the way to go.
“I’m delighted that our Kickstarter backers chose Berlin as the location for our next big expansion,” said Harebrained founder Jordan Weisman. “It’s the perfect setting to show off all of the new gameplay and features we’ve added in this expansion. Our design team has done a fantastic job of building on the work we started with Shadowrun Returns. I couldn’t be happier.”
