Sherlock Holmes: Crimes And Punishment Coming To PS3, PS4 This Year
For for those of you who have always wanted to step into the shoes of the worlds greatest detective (No, not Bruce Wayne!), the team at Frogwares is primed to make your crime-solving dreams come true. They've officially pulled back the curtain on Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishment a bit further, a new adventure game heading to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 later this year.
I don't know if you've noticed, but Sherlock Holmes is all the rage these days. There's the amazing BBC series, the surprisingly not terrible American series, the movies starring Tony Stark, etc. It stands to reason, then, that the Holmes video game line would make a triumphant comeback, which is exactly what Frogwares has been making a reality these past couple of years. The latest iteration in the series is called Crimes & Punishments, according to a post from Frogwares' Olga Ryzhko, and it will allow players to solve six brand new mysteries by investigating crime scenes, questioning witnesses, piecing together clues and occasionally resorting to fisticuffs with the more unsavory suspects.
An announcement trailer has now been released, shown below, highlighting Holmes' trademark damn-near-insanity, brilliant mind and powers of deduction. There's even a hint of the BBC series' storytelling tricks, including words popping up over the scene explaining what Holmes is able to instantly pluck from a scene without even trying. It feels like the final 20 seconds or so might be spoilers, but I have to hope that it's more of a red herring moment rather than actually telling us who one of the case's culprits is. In other words, watch the final moments of the trailer at your own peril.
Acording to Ryzhko, Crimes & Punishment won't let Sherlock drive the entire time. Rather than holding your hand, you'll be required to help the master follow the thread through each of his new cases.
“Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments is a detective game; it needs you to think,” Ryzhko said. “The game focuses heavily on investigation, and with an emphasis on narration, too. There's a lot of exploration and clue collecting, speaking to witnesses and suspects, and—the most important aspect—bringing all of these together to make your own deductions and bring the culprits to justice...or setting them free.”
No word yet on an official release date outside of this year, but we know for a fact that the game is heading to the PS3 and PS4. Put your thinking caps on, because Sherlock Holmes is once again on the case.
