Dragonborn, the third expansion pack to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is now available for Xbox 360 owners. This new DLC takes players to the island of Solstheim, located between the provinces of Skyrim and Morrowind.
Solstheim was previously visited by players in the Bloodmoon expansion to Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It's an even more dangerous place this time around, with new foes like Ash Spawn and Lurkers. Supposedly there are werebears and new dragon types as well. Players will even face off against the first dragonborn.
Fortunately, the DLC provides players with many ways to toughen up. They'll journey to a new Daedric realm to unlock new progression paths. The new gear includes resilient Bonemold armor and powerful Stahlrim weaponry. The new abilities include a Dragon Aspect power to enhance their shouts.
Dragonborn is priced at 1600 MS Points, or $20. That's not an insignificant sum of money but the DLC does sound extensive. Rumor has it that the content could take you over 30 hours to complete if you're the exploring type.
In order to access the DLC, you need to be up to the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller stage of the main campaign, or later. If so, you'll be randomly attacked by cultists somewhere in the world. You'll find a note on one of the corpses that will start you on your journey. Alternately, you could just go to Windhelm's docks and talk to Gjalund Salt-Sage.
Bethesda will eventually release Dragonborn on the PS3 and PC as well. However, that won't happen until 2013.
