Microsoft has reassured gamers that while Xbox 360 doesn't have a Blu-ray disc, they'll be getting digital content through Netflix. In a surprise turn, Sony announced on Tuesday that the PS3 would be getting digital content too.
Through an agreement with a slew of big studios (Warner, Fox, Disney, etc.), Sony now offers digital videos through the Playstation Store. Television show episodes will cost $2 to rent and film rentals will range between $3 to $6 dollars. You'll also be able to purchase movies for between $10 and $15 and transfer said movies to your PSP through a USB cable.
That's right, you're paying for individual rentals rather than a subscription. That might seem old-fashioned but I suppose it's easier than maintaining Netflix and Xbox Live Gold subscriptions and ultimately cheaper if you don't plan on buying a lot of movies.
To add to the surprise, Sony announced that the rental service would be available...now! That's right, as of last night, it's live. Go get 'em.
