Promoting a game is pretty much the whole point of a gaming news site. Yes, we’re also here to convey industry news, but most of what we do falls within the realm of making sure gamers know about the games they want to play. But when a publisher gets their knickers so twisted that they start sending lawyers after gaming sites for freely advertising their products, then someone needs a serious slap in the face and good kick in the nuts.
Here at Blend Games we cover a broad range of gaming titles; when we say nice things about those games the companies behind them usually thank us. When we say mean things, they usually reply in like manner. However, if we decide to cover a game and promote it because we like it, then why would a company want to prevent that?
Because of legal complications we’re not able to go into full details here, but you should know that Blend Games will no longer cover Square Enix game trailers. Not because we don’t want to, but because they won’t let us. All we can say is that our recent coverage of Final Fantasy XIII was not something that Square Enix wanted. It wasn’t anything we said, they simply didn’t want us showing you their trailer. At all.
We were forced to remove the video which, in fact, we didn’t have anyway since we were merely pointing to the trailer on YouTube, where you can still view it. Square Enix doesn’t care, bottom line, they don’t want us sharing their trailers with all of you. It's absurd that a company wouldn't want their game promoted, and even more absurd that they’d punish a website for doing so. It would seem they don’t want you to know about any of their upcoming titles and we have no option but to comply by giving them their much desired silence.
Be sure to stay tuned in with Blend Games for more news and info on all things gaming. Just don’t expect to see any Square Enix trailers. They won’t let us show them to you.
