Next week BioWare will release the first major content update for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Update 1.1, dubbed "The Rise of the Rakghouls," will arrive on January 17th with new group content and several fixes.
A new Flashpoint, Kaon Under Siege, will take players to the new planet in the Tion Hegemony. In this four-player adventure, Imperial and Republic characters alike must battle an outbreak of Rakghouls and in doing so win over the Hegemony. The Flashpoint is designed for level 50 characters and can be played in normal or heroic difficulty.
Rakghouls, if you're not aware, are mindless mutants. They're the result of a Sith plague transmitted through bites or scratches. They play a prominent role in the quests on Taris, a mid-level planet in the game. The screenshots and trailer for Kaon Under Siege, below, will properly introduce you to these monsters.
Update 1.1 also expands Karagga's Palace, one of the two Operations (ie raids) included with SW:TOR at launch. In the Operation, a team of 8 or 16 players will face off against Karagga and the Hutt Cartel. In Karagga's Palace, they'll battle four powerful boss enemies. This Operation will be available in three difficulty levels: normal, heroic, and nightmare.
As previously announced, this update will create a separate Warzone bracket for level 50 characters. It adds an anti-aliasing option to the interface menu as well. Rounding out the update are several balance tweaks and bug fixes. The full patch notes are here.
BioWare plans to release the second major update to the game in March. They promise new Flashpoints, Operations, Warzones and "game systems." No specifics were provided.
