Super Smash Bros. 3DS Demo, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Pulverize Nintendo Weekly Releases
If you ever wanted to punch Pikachu in the face while humming the battle theme to Final Fantasy V, then this week’s lineup of new releases on the Nintendo 3DS is just for you. Get ready for the Super Smash Bros. demo and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call.
It’s a good week to be a Nintendo fan gaming on the go. First up, let’s talk battling Bowsers and brawling Links. With the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. launching on Oct. 3, Nintendo is priming the pugilistic pump with a public demo, available right-bloody-now through the 3DS eShop. While last week’s demo was available via invite only, anyone with the portable console can jump into the fray starting today.
I’ve only spent a little time with the demo so far but, from what I’ve seen, Nintendo has done a fine job of porting Smash action to the palm of your hands. You can pick from Mario, Link, Pikachu, the Villager and Mega Man in the demo, with only one arena available in this trial version. My only real gripe is that the controls aren’t quite my cup of tea, but I hear we’ll be able to customize them in the final build, so no worries on that front. Otherwise, get in a few fights and let us know what you think in the comments below.
This week’s other big release is Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, AKA “The game I’m always certain I’m spelling horribly, horribly wrong.” A rhythm game boasting more than 200 songs from the storied franchise’ long lineup of games, Curtain Call is an enhanced version of the original Theatrhythm offering loads of content and unlocks, as well as online/offline multiplayer. Look for the Gamingblend review over the weekend!
Also arriving on the 3DS this week is Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appetit, the latest in yet another long-running and beloved game from the Nintendo camp that has you completing cooking-themed mini games in order to learn some legit recipes.
You can also get your hands on the Game Boy Color hit RPG, Legend of the River King 2 through the 3DS Virtual Console this week, as well as eShop titles FIFA 15, Horse Vet 3D and Secret Empires of the Ancient World.
Goings are quite a bit slower on the Wii U this week, however, with the Virtual Console release of the NES title, Wild Guns, joined by eShop titles Arrow Time U and Spikey Walls.
