Toejam And Earl's New Game Hits Kickstarter Goal
Humanature Studios has successfully managed to hit their Kickstarter goal with Toejam & Earl. The game is due for release on PC with a few extra stretch goals hit, including additional playable characters.
On a goal of $400,000, the staff managed to bring in $508,000 for Toejam & Earl: Back In The Groove when all was said and done.
As noted on the game's Kickstarter update page, the team sent out a heartfelt thank you, writing...
At the very last minute the stretch goal to include the playable characters was hit, enabling the team to add the playable character Latisha to the roster. They sketched up a quick bit of concept art for the character to give gamers an idea of what she'll look like. She definitely has a sassy space-alien vibe going on about her, as you can see in the image to the right.
Toejam & Earl is a real throwback to the old Sega Genesis titles where players will rely on exploration and adventuring. The game will also sport split-screen action for multiple players, so it encourages gamers to step outside the box and see how far they can travel to complete quests and find unique items.
An added bonus to the game is that some of the maps will be procedurally designed to enable infinite replayability. I think that's one of the things that a lot of people would really love about this newest title; being able to play the game whenever they feel like it and experience all new levels with the core gameplay that made it popular in the first place.
As mentioned in the “thank you” update...

Unfortunately the stretch goals for the Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U were not met. This means that the team will have to hunker down and focus on just the PC version of the game.
However, it's not uncommon for the game to make it onto home consoles if it sells well enough on PC. Also, given how large and diverse the Steam community is and how quickly services like GOG.com are growing, it wouldn't surprise me if the game managed to sell enough on PC to quickly fund ports for the Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U shortly after release.
According to the Kickstarter page the game is estimated to arrive by November, 2015; but let's be honest, this is game development we're talking about here. A more realistic release date is probably around spring 2016, but if Humanature Studios can pull it in tight and knock Toejam & Earl out by November, 2015 I'll be thoroughly impressed.
