During GameTrailers TV last night, Square Enix delivered the promised gameplay trailer for Tomb Raider. The three-minute preview gives a clear look at how Crystal Dynamics is reinventing the series.
This latest Tomb Raider winds back the clock. Lara Croft isn't an experienced adventurer here. Instead, she's a young graduate who's in way over her head. The trailer opens with her tied up and hanging upside down in a cave.
Starting Lara off at such a low point gives the developers a chance to show actual character growth. At the beginning of the video, she's staggering around with a wound but by the end she's trading gunfire and dodging a crashing airplane. This progression should translate into a lot of gameplay variety.
According to the end of the trailer, Tomb Raider will launch on March 5th, 2013. That's a Tuesday so the date might not apply to those of you living elsewhere in the world.
