Valve Acquires Left 4 Dead Developer Turtle Rock
Valve, developer of the Half-Life series, has a long history of working closely with their compatriots on titles. Today it was announced that Turtle Rock, Los Angeles based developer of Left 4 Dead has been incorporated into the Valve family. Considering how close the two have been in the past with Counterstrike it may be more surprising the two weren’t already bosom buddies.
Michael Booth, Turtle Rock’s founder, said, ” Valve has had great success bringing in projects and teams such as Team Fortress and Portal…It became clear that this was the right next step for myself, my colleagues at Turtle Rock, our customers, and our products. We are excited to be a part of such a visionary and forward-thinking company.”
We’ve been keeping our eyes on Left 4 Dead for quite some time. And while it was a Source title supported by Valve, the acquisition of the studio developing the game makes us look even closer at the online zombie shooter. Hell, Valve is our number one developer of the past year for damn good reason. If Gabe Newell and the boys think Turtle Rock has more brilliance for gamers, then we should believe him.
