Activision has announced that developer Isopod Labs is porting Vigilante 8 to Xbox LIVE Arcade. The vehicular combat game, which appeared on Playstation and Nintendo 64 in 1998 and 2000 respectively, will be available on XBLA this Spring.
For the uninitiated, Vigilante 8 is sort of like Twisted Metal in terms of gameplay. It's set in an alternate history 1970's, where the oil crisis has led to anarchy throughout the United States. It was developed as a spin-off to the PC game Interstate '76. Isopod Labs was founded by Adrian Stephens and Peter Morawiec, the same duo who founded Luxoflux Studios, the original developer of Vigilante 8. This will be the label's first game.
Vigilante 8 Arcade will support split-screen multiplayer action for four players as well as online matches for up to 8 players. As with the original game, there will also be a single player mode where players can battle bot opponents. There are also plans for voice (and possibly camera) support. Isopod launched a Vigilante 8 Arcade website this week where you can find out all of the latest information on the game.
