WWE 2K14 Launches With WrestleMania 30 Contest
Fans of spandex, big shiny belts and pile drivers are in for a real treat this week as WWE 2K14 finally makes its way to the ring, offering up a ridiculous amount of high-flying, death-defying action, as well as a chance to win a trip to upcoming WrestleMania 30.
Strap on your flashy outfit, cue the entrance music and make your way into the roaring crowd, because today is the day the legends of WWE new and old start going toe to toe on game consoles with the release of WWE 2K14. My original plan was to type this entire announcement as if I were giving a pre-fight interview, but since I haven’t actually watched a wrestling match since the early 90’s, my references would likely be too outdated. Just imagine that I’m glaring into the camera a lot, occasionally pointing in a way that shows off my impressive pythons, and throwing the words “brother” and “ooooh yeeeeah” in every sentence or two.
If you’re rocking an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, then you can head down to the local shop and pick up your copy of WWE 2K14 starting now. If you can manage to get your hands on a Phenom Edition, congratulations, The Undertaker has been added to your party. Otherwise, you’ve got to settle for the other 40-plus dudes and dudettes making up this year’s roster, including loads of classic wrestlers like Yokozuna and Razor Ramon, as well as modern fighters (several of which offer up their “retro” attire as an alternate outfit).
“With an unparalleled roster of iconic WWE Superstars, Divas and Legends, and 46 of the greatest matchups spanning three decades of WWE history in 30 Years of Wrestlemania Mode, WWE 2K 14 is the most authentic and comprehensive WWE simulation experience produced to date,” said 2K Senior Director of Marketing Chris Snyder. “We have improved all aspects of the game to emulate the WWE experience more closely than ever before.”
Sweet lord, please tell me that includes the melodramatic soap opera interviews and “footage” shot in the locker rooms and parking garages, foreign objects being brought into the ring and matches occasionally being interrupted by a fighter’s arch nemesis either jumping out from under the ring or repelling down from the rafters.
As an added bonus, 2K is celebrating the launch of WWE2L14 with a special contest to send one lucky gamer to WrestleMania 30. “Fans are encouraged to create a desired WrestleMania 30 matchup, capture a screenshot of the in-game action and submit to 2K for a chance to win airfare, hotel and two tickets to WrestleMania 30,” according to the announcement. You need to be 18 years of age or older to participate. The contest begins today, Oct. 29, and runs through Jan. 9, 2014. For full details and to enter, visit the official site.
