Starting today the Wii is even cheaper to buy. Nintendo has brought the price of the console down from $149.99 to $129.99 in North America in anticipating of the holiday season.
The new bundle comes with a one-disc compilation of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, along with a Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk. The controllers and console are all black. The black Wii was previously released as a bundle with New Super Marios. Bros Wii.
"Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season."
Nintendo will be releasing the Wii U in November. They're transitioning the Wii to be its budget alternative.. The Wii is designed primarily for a more casual audience that doesn't pick up the latest hardware as soon as it hits store shelves. It could enjoy a long life as second fiddle to the Wii U, then, just as the DS continues to move units in spite of the 3DS' release.
The cheaper Wii bundle debuts today but you might not be able to find it yet. Nintendo says it will be "broadly available" through the United States by October 28th.
