During their pre-E3 press conference, Nintendo revealed that they'll be offering an alternate controller for the Wii U. The Wii U Pro Controller, like the Wii's Classic Controller, is designed for core gamers.
The Wii U Pro is very similar in shape to the Xbox 360's gamepad. Like that controller, it has dual analog sticks, four face buttons, four shoulder buttons, and a D-pad. It's wireless, with a visible charging slot at the top. It looks a lot easier to use than the Classic Controller or Classic Controller
During the presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the Wii U Pro Controller is designed for multiplatform games. Though they revealed today that the standard Wii U tablet controller has been updated with proper analog sticks, it's really not ideal for games like Assassin's Creed 3 or Darksiders 2. The more compact, lightweight Wii U Pro is the way to go with twitch gameplay.
If you've already got a Classic Controller Pro, you may as well hold onto it. Nintendo previously announced that peripherals for the original Wii will be compatible with the Wii U as well.
