Pre-launch sales for the Wii U are overwhelming retailers. GameStop has stopped taking pre-orders on both the basic and deluxe sets of the console. They've now implemented a wait list so that customers can be notified when additional consoles are available.
The wait list is exclusive to PowerUp Rewards members. To sign up, they have to visit any U.S. location of GameStop. They'll have 48 hours to respond when they're notified that there's a Wii U available for them.
Only two people can be on the wait list per household. No deposit is required to sign up. Being on the list doesn't guarantee that you'll get the console by a specific date. You might have to look elsewhere if you're hoping to get it by Christmas, then.
Signing up for PowerUp Rewards is, fortunately, free. Again, just a matter of going to your local GameStop and signing up. You then earn points that can be used on other purchases. If you pay $14.99/year for the PowerUp Rewards Pro membership, you'll get a subscription to Game Informer, a 10% discount on used games and accessories, and more.
The Wii U will launch on November 18th in North America. The console supports HD visuals and features a touchscreen GamePad with intriguing gameplay applications. The Wii U is also backwards compatible with Wii peripherals and games. Check out pricing here.
